Brief the quarter
Read aloud, then a 30-second brief in your own words.
This speaking turn briefs a quarter. Two comparisons must both survive: against last year, and against the forecast. Say what the chart is doing if the axis does not start at zero. End with the decision, the owner, and the next meeting. A cheerful sentence about the team is not a brief a director can use.
Read the script aloud. Then brief a director in 30 seconds. Keep the two comparisons, the decision, and the owner. Do not add a mood.

Revenue this quarter was 12 percent above the same quarter last year, and 3 percent below the forecast. Profit decreased because costs rose faster than sales. The chart looks steep only because the axis does not start at zero. The plant is at capacity, so I do not recommend a discount. The decision I want today is to delay the discount and review the one region that missed its target. Mina owns that review. We meet again on Tuesday at 9.
A shape that holds
- Revenue was… above last year and … below the forecast.
- I do not recommend…
- The decision is…
- Mina owns… We meet…
